Amy's Biography
So, I was born 37 years ago and moved house 6 weeks later, that would prove to be a bit of a trend for me. I am a bit of a nomad at heart and whilst I normally last longer than 6 weeks in a place, I have moved around a lot!
Thanks to having a father in the forces, we shifted to Germany when I was a baby, then back to my Mum’s home town of St. Ives (Cornwall) when I was 5. Then around and about, hither and yon until I was 11 and we landed – much to our combined familial chagrin in Nottingham. That was obviously quite a long time ago now and there we kind of sat!
I did my schooling there, Ones formative years in Nottingham teaches you many things, least of all how to pass an exam. I was always a fairly timid sensitive person, not terribly adept at saying boo to any random geese. This did change, and I became tougher and more capable. Fortunately, I passed the exams too!
I spent 4 years in Hull at University (should have been 3 but I changed my mind about courses after a year and started again). I successfully graduated and did a secretarial course with Pitman back in Nottingham.
My parents are amazing and have always stood up for me against the majority of odds – however, they were somewhat flummoxed when armed with a degree and a couple of RSA diplomas I went and got a job in a pub. This perplexed confusion abated slightly when I went on to make a career out of it, becoming eventually a manager/licensee. I spent 10 years in the trade working from Nottingham to Edinburgh and many places in between having – to be honest – a pretty good time! I was perpetually exhausted, over-worked and generally frazzled. I was everything from a doorman (I got my badge!) to a bar-maid – a chef, a trainer, an accountant and a general dogsbody in between. But, it was an amazing experience – what a way to spend your 20’s.
By the time I was 30, I was ensconced in a relationship with my then DJ and resident Geek, I unexpectedly got pregnant and returned to Nottingham.
We ended up coming to Lincoln, because my now husband was working as a consultant at Waddington. He was tired of the commute and I was tired of the mania that living in a big city brings.
We now live in a little cottage, in a little village with our now 6 year old daughter. I have been absorbed into the ways of most things TCM. I have been here 4 years and whilst my feet still itch, I have a feeling that I will be here for a while yet.
